Meet the Press wins a sleepy Sunday on Cable News Twitter, 12/14/14

This is a “wow”: On Sunday, MSNBC’s replay of Meet The Press got more Twitter mentions during its broadcast than any other cable news show.  That shows a tremendous deflation of the crowds as the holiday season sets in.  Following MTP was both hours of Melissa Harris-Perry, then both hours of Up with Steve Kornacki, and then Fox News Sunday (at 2pm ET):

Budget Battles Barely Best Cable News Twitter Topics, 12/13/14

Cable News Trending Topics for 2014-12-13

There was a lot of news for Cable News Twitter to talk about Saturday.  And as far as I can tell, the #1 topic was the cromnibus budget bill, the torture report, and then protests against police violence.  But nothing stands out as being particularly dominant.  Maybe just the season?

Cashin’ In Tops Cable News Twitter on Saturday, December 13, 2014

Cashin’ In had another strong Saturday, leading the pack of Saturday shows by a mile:

Cashin’ In’s mentions are down from its recent peaks.  Reading the tea leaves, I suspect that recent events around the torture report and “cromnibus” budget aren’t as motivating as Obama making a new executive order; a current events show is at the whim of current events.  The Kelly File’s special on the torture report last Friday, as an example, depressed her mentions as well.

As an aside, seeing guests live in the studio with Eric Bolling gave the show some extra pep.  The physical interaction between Wayne and Jonathan was a more interesting than seeing everyone stuck in their boxes.

Following Cashin’ In’ was Judge Jeanine, then each hour of Melissa Harris-Perry, an hour of Up with Steve Kornacki, Red Eye, and then the other hour of Kornacki.   Interesting that the MSNBC shows also registered noticeably low mentions.  Well, the budget shenanigans are decidedly bi-partisan, I guess.  Or everyone is at the mall this penultimate shopping weekend.

I want to wish my readers a Merry Christmas.  May your preparations go easily and be over quick, so you can fully immerse yourself in the spirit of the season with friends and family.
