An unusual split day on Friday — Rachel Maddow had the best hour, while Chris Hayes had the best day overall. With events in Ferguson seeming to slow down, it seems unlikely that either show will be able to continue at the same pace next week. But you never know about what news might break…
Actions of the police in Ferguson Mo. continue to dominate the conversation on Cable News Twitter for Thursday, August 14, 2014.
Chris Hayes was in Ferguson Mo. last night to broadcast live from the epicenter of events, and his show won the best hour and best day on Cable News Twitter. Interestingly, unlike the previous day, it was his first live broadcast, not the second, that got top mentions; perhaps by 11pm EDT the audience had decided that there’d be no new news for the day. I’ll also note that, on Wednesday, the Nielsen ratings showed that the 11pm second showing had more viewers than the 8pm first showing; there was a parallel between viewers and Twitter activity.
It was, comparatively speaking, a quiet day for Fox News, but I don’t expect that to last long…
I bet it wouldn’t surprise you that the events in Ferguson Mo. dominated cable news Twitter on Wednesday. Worth noting is that MSNBC managed to get the most mentions of any cable network and that the dominant word is “Police”, which tells us, not unexpectedly, that the focus is on the actions of the police and not the residents of that town…
