Cable News Trending Topics for 2014-05-25

A few days ago, the Morning Joe show made some unfavorable comments about the group UniteBlue.  That has provoked a reaction from the group’s members on Twitter.  What’s interesting is that, normally, the conservative hashtag #tcot dominates cable news Twitter (it’s short, and conservatives use it everywhere), but for the past few days #uniteblue has dominated it.

On Sunday, the last showing of CNN’s Blackfish took place, and the hashtag for that documentary took first place, but, still, three UniteBlue related hashtags landed near the top (2nd, 3rd, 5th), with #tcot stuck in sixth place.

Cable News Twitter Ratings for Sunday, May 25, 2014 — Blackfish makes a final splash!

The last showing (for now…) of Blackfish on CNN managed to just beat out the Melissa Harris-Perry show for best hour.  Although in this case, the timing of the show creates a sort of timezone issue: Blackfish was shown at midnight EDT, which is 9pm PDT.  Logically, you could assert that it really belonged to Saturday’s ratings and not Sundays.  Most other logical views of the TV schedule view a day as ending at 3am EDT / midnight PDT, is a contrast.  I don’t, an normally it doesn’t matter that much, but in this case it does.

So, if you treat the day as ending at midnight EDT, blackfish wins, but if the day ends at midnight PDT, the MHP show wins.  Take which ever one you prefer…

Trending Topics in Cable News for Saturday, May 24, 2014 – Coming to the end of the fishing line

Cable News Trending Topics for 2014-05-24

Even though the Melissa Harris-Perry Show managed to surpass Blackfish in the Twitter ratings, #Blackfish was still the dominant topic overall in cable news Twitter.  Sunday is the last day of scheduled showings on CNN, who then moves into endless repeats  of “The Sixties” towards the end of the week.  I guess we’ll see if #groovy becomes the new hot hashtag.
