Some days Twitter is very “meta”, and yesterday was one of them: Megyn Kelly had the best hour on Twitter with the most popular topic being how she was passing 600 thousand followers on Twitter.  If you look at the word cloud of her mentions during the day, you can see that no other topic really dominated:

Cable News Twitter Ratings for Tuesday, January 21, 2014 – Megyn Kelly Files a Win

Megyn Kelly hit 600,000 followers on Twitter, an event that sparked a huge round of comments — so much so, that it pushed The Kelly File into first place for best hour of the day yesterday.  Right behind her was Morning Joe.

Meanwhile, Piers Morgan continued to dominate the day overall, as he often does, by his unrelenting and prolific tweeting.

News out of New Jersey drove mentions of The Ed Show and Morning Joe, UK football mentions propelled talk with Piers Morgan, and discussion of the Japanese dolphin slaughter drove the most Twitter conversation on Monday.

A strong day for The Ed Show as news about Hoboken and the ongoing “Bridgegate” scandal drove conversation on Twitter.  Piers Morgan had a variety of UK football related mentions, as usual, that buoyed his daily numbers; without those, Morning Joe would have most likely won the day overall.

After Saturday’s block-buster revelations about the Christie administration’s arm-twisting of Hoboken’s mayor, other topics returned to the conversation about cable news on Twitter Sunday.  Nonetheless, both Up with Steve Kornacki and the Melissa Harris-Perry Show triggered huge volumes of conversation on Twitter throughout the day.
